The Process:
Here at Color Sphere Design Studio, we take pride in our ability to make your ideas come to life. It is a collaborative process between the lead artist and the client.Every job includes studio time and on-site time and design meetings. The process is generally as follows:
Getting the Job Started: I meet the client at the location where the project will be painted or installed. For travel jobs, this may be a skype meeting. I show my portfolio of work, and any photo or design references that relate to the project. I listen carefully to your ideas, and measure the space, and take note of any specifications that have an impact on the project. If the project is simple faux finish or if the client provides the design that will be painted, I will next bid the job. This meeting is free.
If the project is a mural, hand painted artwork or a themed space, research and design time will be necessary. This research and design is the most important part of every job, and there is an hourly rate charged for research and design and design meetings, which is not included in the bid. This is non-refundable.
The Bid: Based on the information from various meetings, I will sumit a bid for the work. The bid will include the responsiblilities of both parties and will be broken down by each decorative finish/design.
Samples: Samples are an integral part of every job. For decorative finishes, the initial round of five samples is done for free. Depending on the finish, they will be done on a board or directly on the wall. For murals, pencil sketches/renderings will be done for free.
The client will then sign off on the sample he/she chooses, and pay a retainer fee before any work is done on-site. The work area must be prepared, primed and ready with the base coats needed for what ever treatment is being done. Scaffolding, if provided by the artists, is always a separate fee. If the scaffold is provided by the client, it must be safe per OSHA standards.
On-Site Work: On-site work is where the magic begins! Before we begin, we ask the client to remove all fagile and valuable items from the work area, as well as rugs and furniture. Then we will mask off and cover all areas that will not be painted.
For decorative finishes, we like the client to stop in on the first day to look at the progress, as a large wall often looks markedly different than a small sample. At this point we can tweek the color and technique. After the first day, there is a fee for all changes.
Murals and hand painted designs go through many phases. First the design is transfered to the wall, or blocked in with pencil. Then the first layers of paint are applied. These layers may look very different than the final product, as this is the underpainting. As the days go by, the mural and handpainted designs take shape.
Midway throught he project, a second payment is made by the client for the project to continue. The artist team will finish the project and the plastic is removed. At this time the final payment is made by the client.
General Notes:
Color Sphere Design Studio has general liability insurance and is happy to provide a certificate of insurance upon request.
We will be storing our supplies on-site while the job is in progress, and will need space for two work tables.
Scaffolding is the responsibility of the client. It should be safe per OHSA standards.
The client is responsible for fixing peeling paint, damaged substate, cleaning and painting the area that is to be worked on. Any problems that develope in the substrate during or after the job are not the responsibility of Color Sphere Design Studio.
We do not do regular house painting.
We always leave a touch-up kit for the client, in case repairs are needed later, and we retain a clor sample sheet for our records.
Design Consultations: I am happy to provide design expertise. Besides choices in flooring, wall treatments can solve design and construction problems and have a huge impact on the look, style and ambiance of your home and business. At a design consultation, I bring the resources and visual aids to help you decide what the over-all look you want for your house and business. We look at the unique design opportunities that your house and business offer. Then we discuss the details of different wall treatments, and create a color palette.
Travel Jobs: I have enjoyed spending the last fifteen years traveling to art projects across the USA and to projects in Barbados, Mexico, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, and Lebanan. I am happy to travel to your project with my crew. The design work can be done remotely using blueprints and reference photos. If no blue prints exist, a visit to the site, paid by the client, may be required.
All travel expenses will be paid for by the client. This includes airplane tickets, the cost of transporting or buying equipment on site, all hotel costs. This will not
be included in the bid, and must be paid for by the client, out of pocket and arranged for before we arrive.
Decoratve Finishes:
If you want the best marble, wood grain and leafing in the region, we are your choice.
Murals and Hand-Painted Art:
I have done hand painted artwork for Cheesecake Factory Restaurants across the world for 14 years. I have worked in mansions across the Los Angeles basin, making spaces beautiful and unique. I continue the old style hand painted lettering, and train younger artists in all these techniques.
I have the experience and talent to make your space beautiful.
